Something Watches

Something Watches changes an ordinary world into a slow-burn horror setting, with creepy signs, random chat lines and a stalker that follows at a distance.
What it does
Once installed, the mod builds up unease over time rather than in one scare. A watcher can also spawn suddenly about five blocks away and force the player to look at it before it vanishes without a trace. Players may meet a corrupted Steve, a figure that the mod's story presents as a survivor of an incident.
The mod also changes the atmosphere: signs spawn near the player with messages such as Run Death Near, chat lines arrive from unknown sources, screen glitches bring nausea and darkness, and the sky can turn to midnight instantly. Some events have the player's name on a join message that no one actually sent. The author's notes describe a horror dimension, further structures and admin troll commands, and say that more entities and events are planned for later updates.
Something Watches is built for NeoForge only, for 1.21.8, and it runs on the client and the server, so both sides need it. It works in multiplayer, and the author recommends headphones. The mod is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.
Key features
Stalking entity
A pitch black figure with red eyes follows the player from a distance and silently keeps its position relative to them.
Sudden watcher
A watcher appears five blocks away and forces the player to look at it, then vanishes without trace.
Creepy signs and chat
Signs spawn near the player with ominous messages, and chat lines arrive from unknown sources.
Screen effects
Screen glitches, nausea and darkness are used to disturb the player during the slow-burn progression.
Sky and join events
The sky can turn to midnight instantly, and a fake join message names a player who never connected.
