Simple Welcome Message

by Bennyboy12306

Simple Welcome Message sends a configurable greeting to each player when they join a Fabric or Paper server, with colour codes and placeholders.

FabricMIT LicenseOpen source1.21 – 26.1.2

What it does

Server owners set the greeting text in a config file, using colour codes for styling and placeholders that insert the joining player's name, the number of players online and the join time. The message is delivered each time a player connects, so new arrivals see it without any command from the staff.

The mod can be dropped into the mods folder on a Fabric server, or into the plugins folder on a Paper server, using the matching build for the game version. Fabric builds need Fabric API alongside them. Changes made to the config take effect after a restart on Fabric, while on Paper the welcome-message-reload command applies them without stopping the server.

Three commands are available to operators: one reads the current welcome message, one sets a new message, and one reloads config.yml after it has been edited. The project is open source under the MIT License and is published for Fabric and Paper, with 13 release versions 1.21 – 26.1.2 across the Fabric line.

Key features

  1. Welcome message on join

Each player who connects receives the configured greeting in chat as soon as they enter the server.

  2. Colour codes

The message accepts colour codes, so the greeting can be styled with the same codes used elsewhere in Minecraft chat.

  3. Player placeholder

A placeholder inserts the joining player's name into the text, so every greeting can be personal without extra setup.

  4. Join time and player count

Additional placeholders show the time of the join and the number of players currently online.

  5. Reload and edit commands

Operators can read the current message, set a new one, or reload the config after editing config.yml, without rewriting files by hand.

How it compares

Full comparison

Simple Welcome Message is server-side in its use, since the greeting is sent from the server to players who join. Better Welcome Messages is required on the server and optional on the client, and it covers 1.21.2 – 1.21.5, a narrower range than this mod. Join Message is server-side only, but it targets 1.20.1 – 1.20.6 and is published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license, not as open source. Auto Greeting - Server is also server-side only and open source under the MIT License, with builds for 1.21.11 – 26.3.

Questions

Does Simple Welcome Message need Fabric API?

Yes, on Fabric. Fabric API is a required dependency of the Fabric build. The Paper build does not need it.

Do players need to install the mod?

No. Players join without it. Only the server needs the mod, and the Paper build is installed as a plugin on the server.

Does the server have to restart after editing the config?

On Fabric, a restart is needed before changes apply. On Paper, the welcome-message-reload command applies them while the server runs.
