Silkless Touch (Challenge Version)

by GamerMC

Silkless Touch Challenge Version removes the need for Silk Touch, so most blocks drop their original form when broken.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalMIT License1.20.5 – 1.21.5

What it does

The mod changes how many blocks drop items. Leaves, mushroom blocks, deepslate ores, regular ores, nether ores, amethyst clusters and crimson nylium are covered, so breaking them without Silk Touch returns the block itself instead of a fragment or nothing. Stone ores and similar blocks also become worth collecting, which makes the game harder. The behavior is delivered as a data pack and adds the base version's blocks to the list.

The mod is server required and client optional: a server that runs it applies the change to every player, and clients may install it or leave it out. Files are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and also as a data pack, covering 1.20.5 – 1.21.5 across eight release versions. The latest file is 1.0+mod for 1.21.5, dated 2025-03-26. The code is released under the MIT License, and the project is not open source.

Key features

  1. Original block drops

Most blocks drop their original form when broken without Silk Touch, instead of the usual fragments or nothing.

  2. Covered block types

Leaves, mushroom blocks, deepslate ores, regular ores, nether ores, amethyst clusters and crimson nylium are included in the change.

  3. Harder collection

Stone ores and similar blocks are no longer simple to gather, which turns mining into a challenge run.

  4. Data pack delivery

The change is shipped as a data pack, so it can be added to a world or server without a separate loader setup.

What the author says

This data packs makes almost every block drop in it's original form, as if you had silk touch. This makes it practically a challenge, because you can't get stone, ores etc.
