Disc Crafting
by GamerMC
Disc Crafting lets players craft music discs, which the vanilla game does not allow, through recipes that require exploring the world.
What it does
The mod adds balanced recipes for 18 music discs that cannot be crafted in vanilla. Each recipe needs a few pieces collected from the world, such as short grass, redstone dust, a redstone block, a breeze rod, a cornflower and an amethyst shard, along with an iron key item, a bottle o' enchanting and a few other parts. The key items are spread across the whole world, so a player has to travel and search before a disc can be made.
Recipes appear in the recipe book once their ingredients have been gathered, in the same way vanilla recipes do. The additions are delivered as a data pack, and the mod is distributed for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt with the same file version. Only the server needs it; a client can join without installing it. Files exist for 1.20.3 – 1.21.5, and the code is released under the MIT License, though the project is not open source in the sense of publishing its full history.
Key features
Crafted music discs
Eighteen music discs that the vanilla game only obtains from chests and drops can be made with a recipe.
Exploration-based recipes
Each disc recipe calls for key items that have to be found in different parts of the world.
Vanilla-style recipe book
Disc recipes appear in the recipe book when their ingredients are collected, as other recipes do.
Data pack delivery
The balanced recipes and disc items are supplied as a data pack, so they can be loaded without a separate mod file.

Use cases
Survival progression
Players in a survival world can use the disc recipes as a goal that rewards travel and searching.
Adventure maps
Map makers can expect players to gather key items across a larger world before crafting a disc.
Who it’s for: Server owners who want music discs to be earned through exploration, and players on those servers who prefer crafting to random loot.
How it compares
Craft Music Discs is open source under the MIT License, works on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and covers 1.21 – 26.3, so it reaches newer releases than Disc Crafting. Disc Discovery targets 1.20.1 – 1.21.1 on Fabric, Forge and Quilt only, without a NeoForge build. Disc Construction is licensed as All rights reserved, is not open source, and covers only 1.20 – 1.20.1.

What the author says
This data pack adds balanced recipes to all uncraftable music discs. Each music disc requires a few pieces of iron, a key item, and a bottle o' enchanting. All key items are completely different, requiring you to explore the whole world. All recipes are also unlockable like in vanilla.
