Shut Up Dead Entities

by diskria

Shut Up Dead Entities is a Fabric client mod that fades out the sounds of dying mobs with a pitch drop instead of letting them play to the end.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.14.4 – 26.3

What it does

In vanilla Minecraft, the sounds of a mob keep playing in full after it dies or despawns, which can leave the impression of a ghost mob over empty space. This mod replaces that with a short fade, where the pitch falls as the sound quietens and then stops. Endermen, Creepers, Nether mobs and other entities are covered, and the result is a clear cue that a mob is gone.

The mod also trims several lingering sounds: the hissing of a Creeper that has already been killed, the crossbow winding of a Pillager that has already fallen, and the dive-bomb swoosh that continues after a shot has landed. Environmental ambience such as water spilling over lava or a campfire stops at the moment its source is gone. It works on a single-player or multiplayer client and needs no server-side part. Shut Up Dead Entities requires Fabric Language Kotlin, and it is open source under the MIT License. Files are published for Fabric only, across 44 release versions, with builds covering 1.14.4 – 26.3.

Key features

  1. Faded mob sounds

Sounds from dying or despawning mobs fade out smoothly rather than playing in full.

  2. Pitch drop on fade

The pitch falls during the fade, giving a clear end point to each mob sound.

  3. Lingering sound cleanup

Crossbow winding, dive-bomb swoosh and similar sounds stop once their source is gone.

  4. Ambient sound stops

Water and lava spill sounds and campfire and nature ambience end when their source is removed.

What the author says

A lightweight client-side mod that brings natural sound fading and pitch drops to dying entities, fixing Minecraft's misleading sound persistence. Because of how the pitch-shift fading works, some dying mobs produce pretty hilarious audio effects. For example, a Ghast will literally meow at you as it fades out!:D
