Shriek
by Pryzmm
Shriek is a Minecraft speech-to-text library that lets other mods detect what players say, built on the Vosk recognizer and requiring Architectury API.
What it does
Shriek listens to a player's microphone and turns speech into text that other mods can read. Its recognizer is Vosk, which can handle several languages. On first launch the mod fetches a Vosk model over the internet; the default model is about 40 MB compressed, and the game may freeze for a couple of seconds while the model is set up. Holding a push-to-mute key switches the microphone off for as long as it is held, and other mods can toggle recording on or off through the API.
Shriek exposes a ShriekApi class with the methods other mods call to start and stop recognition and receive the resulting text. The mod is a library rather than a gameplay addition, so players see no new blocks or items. Shriek is published for Fabric and NeoForge, with files for 1.21 – 1.21.11, and it needs Architectury API on either loader. Installation covers the server and each player's game. The code is not open source; it is released under All rights reserved, though a source repository and issue tracker are linked from the project page.
Key features
Speech-to-text library
Other mods can receive what players say as text, which makes voice-driven features possible without each mod writing its own recognizer.
Automatic model setup
The recognizer model is set up on first launch, so no manual setup is needed, though the initial step requires an internet connection.
Push-to-mute key
Holding a dedicated key turns the microphone off while it is pressed, giving players direct control over when they are heard.
Multilingual recognition
The Vosk engine supports several languages, so the text output is not limited to one language.
Recording toggle for other mods
Mods built on the API can start and stop recording on their own schedule, and an example implementation is available in the source repository.

How it compares
VoiceLib is open source under the MIT License and runs on Fabric and NeoForge for 1.21 – 1.21.1, so it covers an earlier version range than Shriek. DO NOT SAY THE NAME OF THIS BLOCK! is Fabric-only for 1.21.11, client and server, and not open source. Speech Heads is Fabric-only for 1.21.1, client and server, and not open source. Text To Speech TTS (Standalone) is Fabric-only for 1.21.1 – 1.21.11, client required with the server optional, and not open source.
