Shield Parry
by XIXITV
When an enemy strikes, a timed block on Shield Parry can turn the hit into a counterattack, and Shield Parry adds that timing system to NeoForge 1.21.1 combat.
What it does
Shields gain a timing-based layer on top of vanilla blocking. A normal block sets a shield cooldown afterward, while a perfect parry, made by raising the shield inside a short window, reflects true damage back to melee attackers and briefly staggers them, knocking them back. The mod turns shields from passive defense into equipment for counterattacks.
Mobs also get a posture system. Each perfect parry adds to a mob's posture, and once it is broken the mob enters a stronger true stagger state. The mod adds custom effects tied to parrying and posture damage, along with feedback, advancements and a combat mechanics layer that works with NeoForge 1.21.1.
Installation needs only NeoForge. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. Files are published for NeoForge 1.21.1 only, with 0.1.0 as the latest beta file, released under the MIT License and not open source.
Key features
Perfect parry window
Raising the shield inside a short timing window produces a perfect parry instead of a normal block.
Reflected damage
A perfect parry reflects true damage back to melee attackers, so the counterattack lands on the enemy.
Shield cooldown
A successful normal block starts a shield cooldown, so the shield cannot be raised again right away.
Mob posture
Repeated perfect parries build a mob's posture, and breaking it leaves the mob in a stronger true stagger state.

Use cases
Melee-heavy combat
Players who fight mostly with swords and axes can use timed parries as a counter to close attacks.
Boss encounters
Posture buildup gives a fight a clear goal: break the mob's posture to trigger the stronger stagger.
Who it’s for: Players and server owners on NeoForge 1.21.1 who want shields to play a larger part in melee combat, and who accept that both sides need the mod for the timing to work.
