Shears Disables Tripwires/String Again

by MyckasP

Shears Disables Tripwires/String Again restores the classic tripwire trick on Forge: left-clicking tripwire string with shears disarms it without triggering it.

ForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.18 – 1.21.5

What it does

Before the change, Forge removed the ability to disarm tripwire string with shears, which broke string duplication and similar farms that depended on it. This mod brings the behavior back. Holding shears in the main hand and left-clicking a tripwire string cuts it without setting off the trap, and the string is dropped as an item. Breaking a disarmed tripwire with the hand or any other tool removes it, while shears never break the tripwire itself.

The mod needs the player to be sneaking, and the aim does not have to be exact. Earlier versions only responded when the cursor hit a tiny sliver of the hitbox, and a particular facing direction seemed to matter. The mod widens the target so clicks near a tripwire find the string along its direction. The author states that farms built on the old behavior keep running, and that disarmed tripwires are tracked and restored on the server.

Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. It is published for Forge only, 1.18 – 1.21.5, with 17 release versions. The latest Forge file is 1.18.2 for 1.18.2, and the project is released under All rights reserved.

Key features

  1. Shears disarm tripwire

Left-clicking tripwire string while holding shears disarms it without triggering the trap.

  2. Restored string duplication

Disarmed tripwires are tracked, so string duplicators and farms that rely on this trick work again.

  3. Looser aim requirement

A wider target area lets a click near a tripwire find the string, instead of requiring a precise hit.

  4. Hand removal of tripwire

A disarmed tripwire can be broken with the hand or other tools, and shears never break it.

What the author says

A Minecraft Forge mod that restores the classic tripwire trick: left-click a tripwire with shears to disarm it without triggering it - just like before Forge removed the functionality. String dupers work again. That's it. Sneaking is not required, and you do not need to face any particular direction.
