What it does

Shadow Drop is a client-side decoration mod. Only the player's client needs it, so a server can run without it and players can install it on their own. The mod adds faint drop shadows to items in GUIs, with a small performance cost. Shadows can be set for where they appear and hidden in places where they are not wanted, and their crop can be adjusted so that they fit inside slot borders.

The look is controlled through a generated config file, and a clearer settings menu is available through YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL). Mod Menu is optional and gives access to the same settings from the mod list. Fabric API is required on Fabric. Shadow Drop is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 8 release versions, 1.20.1 – 26.3, and the code is released under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Item drop shadows

Items in inventory screens and other GUIs get a subtle shadow behind them.

  2. Shadow color and opacity

The color and strength of each shadow can be changed to suit the player's taste.

  3. Shadow position

The offset of the shadow relative to the item can be moved, so it sits where the player prefers.

  4. Show or hide by screen

Shadows can be enabled or turned off for specific GUIs and screens.

  5. Slot-fitted cropping

Shadows can be cropped so they stay inside slot borders instead of spilling past them.

Fabric, Forge and NeoForge. On Fabric, Fabric API is required.

Does Shadow Drop change the settings menu?

The config file is generated automatically. YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL) adds a clearer config menu, and Mod Menu can open the settings from the mod list.
