Server Backpacks!

by Rouesvm

Server Backpacks! adds portable storage containers that players wear and open from their inventory, running on the server alone.

FabricServer-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.21 – 26.3

What it does

Backpacks come in small, medium, large, ender and global sizes. A small backpack holds 9 slots, a medium one 18 and a large one 27. The ender backpack gives access to the ender chest from anywhere, and the global backpack holds 54 slots whose inventory is shared with other global backpacks it is linked to. Ender pearls dropped on the ground can be used as a link between two global backpacks. A lava backpack clears its first row and moves its contents into the second row.

The mod is server-side only, so players join without installing anything, and it requires Fabric API and Polymer. Polymer is what lets the server send backpack models to clients. Geyser support lets Bedrock players wear backpacks as well; only Java players see them on their back. Server owners can generate the Polymer resource pack with a command, and the zipped pack sits in the server folder for automatic hosting once enabled in the Polymer config. The mod is published for Fabric only, across 17 release versions 1.21 – 26.3, and is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Four backpack sizes

Small, medium and large backpacks hold 9, 18 and 27 slots, and regular backpacks can be dyed like bundles.

  2. Ender backpack

An ender backpack opens the ender chest from any location, with no need to find the chest in the world.

  3. Linked global backpacks

A global backpack holds 54 slots and shares its inventory with other global backpacks it is linked to through ender pearls dropped on the ground.

  4. Lava backpack and trash backpack

A lava backpack moves its full first row into the second row to free space, and a trash backpack voids the items put into it.

  5. Crafting module

A crafting module adds a crafting grid to the backpack, so items can be crafted without leaving the inventory.

Questions

Does Server Backpacks! need Polymer on the server?

Yes. Polymer is required, along with Fabric API, and Polymer Patch for Trinkets Updated is an optional addition.

Do players need to install the mod?

No. Only the server needs it, and players join without installing anything.

How are the Polymer resources delivered?

A resource pack is generated with a command and saved as polymer-resourcepack.zip in the server folder, where Polymer can host it automatically if enabled in its config.
