Serene & Slice Compat

by ptayur

Serene & Slice Compat is a small Forge and NeoForge compatibility patch that makes Create: Slice & Dice and Serene Seasons work together without conflicting over rain.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

When both mods are installed, the sprinkler from Serene Seasons waters crops correctly again, and the rain sound that Create: Slice & Dice relies on plays as it should. The two mods conflict because both inject code into Minecraft's isRainingAt method, and the compatibility mod resolves that overlap so each one can run its own logic.

Instead of injecting into isRainingAt directly, the patch works around the weather-system trigger that Create: Slice & Dice uses for rain-related sound effects. Mixin applies several cancellable HEAD injections with equal priority in sequence, and the first callback that cancels the method stops the later ones from running. Serene Seasons' mixin configuration loads first, so its injection cancels the method, and the injection from Create: Slice & Dice never executes. The patch adjusts that order so both effects apply.

The mod is published for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 and needs both client and server to run it, so every player and the server need it installed. It is released under the MIT License and is open source, with the source code and issue tracker publicly linked.

Key features

  1. Sprinkler irrigation fix

Restores the sprinkler behavior from Serene Seasons when Create: Slice & Dice is present, so irrigation works as intended.

  2. Rain sound restoration

Brings back the rain sound that Create: Slice & Dice plays, which the conflicting weather code had silenced.

  3. Mixin injection ordering

Adjusts how overlapping HEAD injections into isRainingAt are applied, so neither mod's cancellation blocks the other.

  4. Lightweight patch

Works as a targeted fix rather than a replacement, leaving both original mods to supply their own content and logic.

How it compares

Full comparison

The Sound of Rain is a Forge and NeoForge mod for 1.20 – 1.20.4, client-side only and released under the MIT License, so it does not need to be on the server. Create : Beyond Limits runs on client and server for 1.20.1 – 1.21.1 and is open source under the MIT License, which matches this patch's version range but adds separate content rather than fixing a conflict. Seasonal Let's Do is server-side only, open source under the Apache License 2.0, and covers a far wider set of loaders and versions.

Questions

Does Serene & Slice Compat need to be installed on the server?

Yes. Installation covers the server and each player's game.

Which loaders does Serene & Slice Compat support?

It is published for Forge and NeoForge. Files exist for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, with version 0.3.3 as the latest file for both.

Why are Create: Slice & Dice and Serene Seasons in conflict?

Both mods inject code into Minecraft's isRainingAt method, and the rain-related sound from Create: Slice & Dice depends on the vanilla weather trigger. This patch changes the injection order so both effects work.
