Sculk
by Lunade
Sculk adds working Sculk blocks to Minecraft 1.18.1 on Fabric, with Sculk Sensors, Catalysts and Shriekers behaving as their vanilla counterparts do.
What it does
Sculk spreads from its source blocks across nearby terrain, and the Sculk Sensor, Catalyst and Shrieker blocks interact with it as they do in vanilla. A Shrieker needs a Sculk block underneath it before it can inflict Darkness on nearby players, and the mod adds a gamerule that stops Shriekers from making their sound when turned off. Catalysts can be set to spawn XP orbs above themselves instead of spreading Sculk, and they can detect game events such as walking or jumping, unless the entity is sneaking.
The mod works on client and server, so both sides need it. A set of gamerules controls the behavior: spreadMultipler, from 1 to 20, increases how fast Sculk Growths, Sensors and Shriekers spread, and another value controls how far Sculk Growths spread up and down. Sculk multithreading is switched on by default through the sculkThreading gamerule, which the author describes as the main performance setting, and it can be turned off if a server runs into low performance.
Sculk is released under the MIT License and is not open source. Its latest Fabric file is 1.0.13 for 1.18.1, published on 2022-01-23, and the mod has been available since 2021-12-25.
Key features
Working Sculk blocks
Sculk Sensors, Catalysts and Shriekers are added, and the Sculk they grow is rebuilt to match vanilla behavior.
Shrieker sound and darkness
Shriekers emit a gargling sound with particles, can be waterlogged, and inflict Darkness on players who have a Sculk block below them.
Catalyst behavior options
Catalysts can detect game events and send vibrations like Sculk Sensors, or spawn XP orbs instead of spreading Sculk.
Sculk threading
Multithreaded Sculk updates are on by default through the sculkThreading gamerule, and the author notes that this improves performance on most hardware.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Servers with heavy Sculk growth
Server owners can raise the spread rate with spreadMultipler or lower it, and can disable Shrieker sound or Darkness effects through gamerules.
Who it’s for: Players who want working Sculk mechanics on a 1.18.1 Fabric world or server, and server owners who want to tune how the blocks spread and perform.

What the author says
By default, the gamerule sculkThreading is set to true. This saves a TON on performance and is perfect for servers and mostly all hardware. You can always run "/gamerule sculkThreading false" to disable sculk multithreading, however, beware of low performance with Catalysts.
