ScalingGUIs

by Spazley

Players who find the vanilla GUI too small or too large can set the scale of each screen separately with ScalingGUIs, a Forge option for 1.12.2.

What it does

ScalingGUIs separates the scale of individual interfaces from the main GUI scale setting. The main GUI scale, the HUD scale and the tooltip scale each keep their own controls, so one can change without moving the others. The mod replaces the GUI scale button on the Video Settings menu with a button that opens its own scale settings screen, where sliders offer a wider range than the vanilla options.

The custom scale menu lets a player set a scale for one GUI or for a group of GUIs that share a common ancestor. A dynamic whitelist and a class blacklist decide which GUI classes change scale. Container GUIs are the ones handled by the whitelist, since only classes extending GuiContainer are affected. The crafting table, chest and JEI recipe screens can be given their own scale, and changes are saved when the menu closes.

ScalingGUIs is published for Forge only, for 1.12.2. It runs on the client alone, so servers do not need it and players join without installing it. The mod is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Separate HUD and tooltip scale

The HUD and tooltips each take their own scale, independent of the main GUI scale setting.

  2. Per-GUI scale menu

A custom menu sets scales for individual screens or for groups of screens that share a common ancestor.

  3. Dynamic whitelist and blacklist

A whitelist picks GUI classes that scale by their own dimensions, and a blacklist excludes classes by name.

  4. Wider slider range

Sliders in the scale settings menu cover a greater range than the vanilla GUI scale options.

Questions

Does ScalingGUIs need to be installed on the server?

No. Players add it to their own game, and a server needs no copy.

Which Minecraft version does ScalingGUIs support?

The latest Forge file, 1.12.2-1.0.3.1, is for 1.12.2, and 1.12.2 is the only game version listed.

Can the scale of the crafting table screen be changed alone?

Yes. The crafting table and chest GUIs both have their own scale setting, so they can differ from other screens.
