Monkey King's Staff
Monkey King's Staff adds Sun Wukong's staff, Ruyi Jingu Bang, to Minecraft as a crafted weapon for players who want the legendary staff in their game.
What it does
The staff comes from the Journey to the West, the Chinese novel by Wu Cheng'en that follows the Monkey King through his early life and his redemption alongside Zhu Bajie, Sha Wujing and Ao Lie under the monk Tripitaka. The mod carries that weapon into the game as an item players can craft and keep.
The author built the mod for personal use and first released it in November 2024, after the Black Myth game drew renewed attention to the character. Little else in the catalog covers the original staff, which is why the mod was published. The crafting recipe is meant to convey how heavy the weapon is, and the staff is treated as an endgame item.
Files are published for Fabric only, for seven release versions 1.20 – 1.20.6, with 1.0.0 for 1.20.6 as the latest build. The mod runs on the client and on the server, so both need it. The code is not open source; it is released as All rights reserved.
Key features
Ruyi Jingu Bang
The staff of Sun Wukong is added as a single weapon item, modeled on the one described in the novel.
Crafted recipe
The staff is made through a crafting recipe rather than found only in chests or drops.
Endgame weight
The recipe and cost reflect the staff being an endgame weapon, with stats close to a netherite sword.
Faster and unbreakable
The staff is faster than a netherite sword and does not wear down in use.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Story-driven play
Players who follow the Journey to the West theme can add the staff to a survival world without other weapon mods.
Late-game progression
The staff is intended as a reward once the crafting materials are gathered, so it suits the end of a run.
Who it’s for: Players who want the Monkey King's staff as a crafted item, and server owners who want the weapon available on a Fabric server.
How it compares
Staff of Building Reborn is Fabric-only, runs on client and server for 1.19.2 – 1.21.11 and is open source under the MIT License, but it adds building tools rather than a combat staff. Almightly Staff is open source under the MIT License, built for Fabric and Forge on 1.20.1, and runs on client and server. Firestaff targets 1.21.11 only, is Fabric-only, runs on client and server and is not open source, so it is released under All rights reserved, as is this mod.
