Rudimentary
by CozyPenguin
Players who want early-game resources to take longer to gather can use Rudimentary, a Fabric and Quilt adventure mod that adds flint tools and blocks Rudimentary.
What it does
Rudimentary slows the start of a survival world by requiring players to gather resources before they can break some blocks. Logs cannot be broken by hand; players first obtain flint, sticks and flax, and a flint hatchet is crafted from grass drops to chop trees. A flint pickaxe is also provided, so the earliest tools follow the same chain.
Fire comes earlier in the progression. Campfires stay unlit when set down, and a player lights one by crafting a fire starter from sticks and flax, so iron is not needed. The brick furnace is a separate option: it uses a set of brick blocks and is meant to replace the normal furnace, which takes more work to obtain. The author recommends making vanilla furnaces harder to get, otherwise the brick furnace does not make much sense.
Rudimentary runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. Its only required dependency is Fabric API, and the author recommends a recipe viewer alongside it. The mod is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and files cover 1.21 – 1.21.1 on Fabric and Quilt.

Players cannot break logs with their fists, but instead need to gather flint, sticks and flax (obtained by breaking grass) to craft a flint hatchet. Rudimentary also provides a flint…
