Rich Translatable Text
by xu233333
Rich Translatable Text lets mod authors write localized text with rich text formatting, so translated strings can carry styling such as colors and emphasis.
What it does
The library reads translation entries from language files and turns them into formatted text components. Authors can place rich formatting codes inside a language entry, and the formatting is kept when the string is shown in the game, instead of being stripped to plain text. It works with the standard lang file layout used by Minecraft Java Edition, so existing translation workflows still apply.
Rich Translatable Text is a dependency for mods that need styled, translatable messages. It runs on the client and on the server, so both sides need it installed. Files are published for Fabric and Forge, covering 1.20.1 – 1.20.6, and the source code and issue tracker are public under the MIT License, so the project is open source.
Key features
Formatted translation strings
Language entries can include formatting, so one translated string can show colors and emphasis without extra code.
Standard lang file support
Translations are read from ordinary language files, following the same layout that Minecraft uses for its own text.
Format placeholders
Placeholder syntax lets a translated string insert values at fixed positions while keeping its formatting.
Public issue tracker
Bug reports and requests are taken through the public GitHub issue tracker linked from the project.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Translated mod messages
A mod that sends chat or tooltip messages in several languages can keep its styling inside each translation file.
Styled server announcements
Server-side messages can be written once in a language file and shown with colors in every supported language.
Who it’s for: Mod authors who want translatable messages with rich formatting, and server owners who run mods that rely on this library. Players do not need to configure anything beyond installing it alongside the mods that depend on it.
How it compares
Chat Message Library is a Fabric-only, server-side only mod for 1.20 – 1.20.4, under the MIT License and open source. INet is a Forge-only, client-side only mod for 1.19.4, also under the MIT License and open source. Rich Translatable Text covers both Fabric and Forge for 1.20.1 – 1.20.6 and runs on client and server.
