RetroRig: Oil

by kyden_

RetroRig: Oil adds a BuildCraft-style oil chain to NeoForge, from finding crude reservoirs to refining them into fuel for engines.

NeoForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.21.1 – 26.1.2

What it does

Oil reworks the classic BuildCraft-style oil process for modern Minecraft. A Survey Scanner locates and reads crude reservoirs in desert seeps and ocean gushers, a Pumpjack multiblock with animated drill pipe pulls the crude out, and a Basic Refinery begins processing it into heavy oil. A Distillation Column splits the output into Heavy Oil, Light Oil and Petroleum, and a Cracking Unit upgrades fractions using heat, water and charcoal. Flare Stacks burn off backed-up fluids, and asphalt from the process can be used for roads.

The fuel feeds a large animated Combustion Engine, which turns petroleum into FE power. Engines can be built with Diamond frames for a late-game option, and a Water Pump supplies the cooling they need. Build the multiblocks, place the rotor, supply oil and fuel, and watch the engine spin up. The mod is licensed All rights reserved and is not open source. It targets NeoForge, runs on client and server, and is published for 1.21.1 and 26.1.2.

Key features

  1. Crude reservoir survey

The Survey Scanner reads crude reservoirs in oil fields, desert seeps and ocean gushers before a pumpjack is placed.

  2. Multistage refining

Basic Refinery, Distillation Column and Cracking Unit handle the chain from crude to heavy oil, light oil and petroleum.

  3. Combustion Engine power

A large animated Combustion Engine burns petroleum for FE power, with a Water Pump for cooling and a Flare Stack for surplus fluid.

  4. In-game field manual

A Field Manual craftable in game documents the oil field, the refining stages, the fuel tiers and the common problems players run into.

What the author says

RetroRig: Oil brings back the feeling of classic BuildCraft oil for modern Minecraft, but pushes it further into a full oil-processing and power-generation loop. Find hidden crude reservoirs, survey them, pump them out, refine the fractions, crack them into better fuels, and feed a huge animated Combustion Engine…
