by mzdun

Resource Scanner is a Fabric client mod that reveals chosen ore types in the area around the player when a scan is run from a key press.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.21 – 1.21.4

What it does

A scan looks for the resource types the player has selected within a range of 32 blocks in the direction the player is looking, and the results are shown as echoes. Coal, iron, diamond, netherite and other ores can be chosen, and the selection can be changed in the main menu or during a running session. The inventory can hold up to 18 ore kinds, so the scanner can track more than one resource at a time. The first stage starts with coal and deepslate coal ore, and later stages widen the list as the player advances.

The mod is open source under the MIT License and requires Fabric API. Mod Menu is optional and gives access to the settings screen. Configuration is also possible by editing the JSON file, which can add more ores beyond the built-in list. Files are published for 1.21 – 1.21.4, and the latest file is 0.5.3+1.21.4-fabric for 1.21.4. The author notes the mod is alpha quality and that its performance impact with a large number of other mods is not fully known, and asks players to report issues through the bug tracker.

What the author says

It helps players to find resources more easily. At start, it only looks for coal, so the player can produce torches and fend-off mobs. At later stages, it can help locate resources near the player that are needed for advancing the session. WARNING - mod is alpha quality, not tested with large number of mods…
