Reliable Backpacks

by evanbones

Reliable Backpacks lets players wear a backpack that stores items and can be placed on the ground, with a configurable blacklist and a small set of behavior changes.

What it does

Backpacks are crafted from leather, rope and a farmers delight installed backpack, and once worn they hold items that stay with them. A backpack can be dyed like leather armor, and players can place one on the ground, where it keeps its contents. Breaking a backpack drops its items more slowly than a usual container, and backpacks retain enchantments such as Soul Bound. Backpacks can replace replaceable blocks such as grass when placed.

The mod is a bare-bones backpack mod that leaves out extra keybinds, menus and slots. Several backpacks can be opened at once, and players can quickly swap between them through the same container. Backpacks can be picked up by shift-clicking, and they float in water. An item blacklist tag controls which items cannot be stored, covering shulker boxes and sacks from the Supplementaries mod. The project was first published on 2026-03-12 and last updated on 2026-09-07. It is open source under the MIT License, with a public source code repository and issue tracker. Cloth Config API is optional and adds configuration screens. Curios and Trinkets are supported for wearing backpacks in their slots.

What the author says

Backpacks can be placed down on the ground directly from your chestplate-slot. This means you can interact with them same as any container, allowing for quick swapping between several backpacks, and easy sharing between players.
