Reduced Loot

by Thomsonsamson

Reduced Loot cuts the number of items placed in naturally generated loot chests, in vanilla dungeons, modded fortresses and other structures.

FabricForgeNeoForgeServer required, client optionalAll rights reserved1.20 – 1.21.11

What it does

Reduced Loot lowers how many items appear in the loot chests that world generation places, so a found chest holds less than usual. The aim is scarcity: early-game gear arrives more slowly, and exploration keeps its pull because a raided Bastion or Waystone hut yields fewer items. It works with vanilla structures, modded structures and loot tables, and it is compatible with Lootr and most other loot-handling mods.

The mod is lightweight and configurable through a config file, so a server owner sets how much loot is removed. It suits survival and progression-focused play, and large quest-driven modpacks that want a slower pace. Reduced Loot is a server required mod with optional client support, so the server must run it, while a player may leave it out. Files cover 1.20 – 1.21.11, with Fabric, Forge and NeoForge builds, and the mod is released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source.

Key features

  1. Fewer items per chest

Loot chests generated in the world hold a reduced number of items than their default tables would give.

  2. Scarcity for progression

Slower access to gear keeps early game power in check and makes each find in exploration matter more.

  3. Config file control

Amount of loot removal is set in a config file, so server owners can tune the balance for their pack.

What the author says

Reduced Loot cuts down the amount of items found in naturally generated loot chests across all structures – from vanilla dungeons to modded fortresses – bringing scarcity, balance, and challenge back to exploration-heavy modpacks. Whether you're raiding a Bastion or looting a Waystone hut, you'll find less loot, but…
