Recycling

by Nat's Projects

Recycling lets players break down worn armor and tools into their base materials, adding recipes that return part of an item's materials when it is recycled.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalCreative Commons Attribution 4.01.16 – 26.3

What it does

Recycling adds recipes that take armor pieces and tools from the 1.16.x era and return a portion of the materials they were made from. Items can also be smelted in a furnace so their output is recovered. The mod is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and its data pack form is also available for servers. Builds cover 1.16 – 26.3 across 40 release versions, with snapshot builds published as well.

Because the mod works through recipes and a data pack, the server needs it installed, while players can join without it and still see the recovered materials in their inventory. Recycling is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Recycled armor and tools

Armor and tools from the 1.16.x versions can be recycled into a portion of the materials used to craft them.

  2. Added recycling recipes

New recipes handle recycling, so a worn item is turned back into usable materials instead of being discarded.

  3. Furnace smelting

Items can be smelted to recover materials, giving another route to reuse gear that has no further use.

  4. Data pack installation

A data pack version is available, so a world can gain the recycling recipes without installing a mod loader.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Survival players and server owners who want a way to recover materials from older armor and tools, using either the mod on a supported loader or the data pack on a server.

Questions

Does the server need Recycling installed?

Yes. Only the server must run the mod, so players may add it or leave it out.

Can Recycling run as a data pack instead of a mod?

Yes. A data pack version is available for servers, and it is applied by dropping the zip file into the world's datapacks folder and reloading the world.

Which loaders have Recycling files for 26.3?

The latest file for 26.3 is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, all dated 2026-10-13.
