Realistic Torches

by shadowhunter22

Realistic Torches changes how torches behave in the world, so that rain can put them out and they stop being permanent light sources.

FabricClient and serverAll rights reserved1.20.1 – 26.3

What it does

The mod changes vanilla torches in several ways. A torch exposed to rain is extinguished, which affects standing torches, wall torches and soul torches alike. Redstone torches are also affected by the mod. The same changes apply to both regular torches and soul torches, so one set of rules covers the lighting blocks in a world.

Realistic Torches needs Fabric API and runs on Fabric only. Servers that run it need every player to install it too. Builds cover 1.20.1 – 26.3 across eight release versions, with 6.0.1+26.3 as the latest Fabric file for 26.3. The mod is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.

A sister mod, Realistic Campfires, changes how campfires work in the same way. The author plans to support NeoForge in a later release, and files currently exist only for Fabric.

Key features

  1. Rain extinguishes exposed torches

A torch in an exposed position is put out by rain, so lighting depends on shelter as well as placement.

  2. Soul torches included

The rain rule applies to soul torches as well as regular torches, with no separate setting for each.

  3. Redstone torches affected

Redstone torches follow the altered behavior, so circuits built with them respond to the changes.

  4. Torch behavior kept consistent

Standing, wall and soul variants all share one set of rules, which keeps the lighting system predictable.
