Realistic Generators

by benWare

Realistic Generators is a NeoForge technology mod that models a steam power plant as a chain of buildable multiblock stages, where heat, pressure and rotation all affect the output.

NeoForgeClient and serverMIT License1.21.1

What it does

Most power mods hand the player a block that makes energy. Realistic Generators instead splits the process into fuel, heat, steam, rotation and electricity. A fire boiler turns water into high-pressure steam, steam is piped through a turbine rotor built in HP, IP and LP stages, and the turbine drives a generator that outputs Forge Energy. Spent steam is condensed back into water so the plant runs as a closed loop.

The mod treats the machines as physical objects. A boiler that is over-fired while its steam has no outlet can rupture, and a relief valve and gauges help manage pressure. Machines warm up and cool down rather than switching instantly, cold starts are slow and weak, and turbines keep spinning on their own inertia. A build dashboard reports which stage is missing or out of order, and the multiblocks are meant to be assembled by the player.

Client and server environment means the server and every player need the mod. Realistic Generators is released under the MIT License, is not open source, and has files for 1.21.1 only, with the latest NeoForge build 1.1.1 published on 2026-06-28. Jade and Patchouli are optional dependencies.

Key features

  1. Steam power chain

Fuel heats a boiler, the boiler makes steam, and the steam drives a turbine and generator, each as a separate machine.

  2. Staged turbine assembly

The turbine rotor is built in HP, IP and LP order, and a missing or misordered stage leaves that section producing no power.

  3. Pressure and safety

An over-fired boiler with no outlet for its steam can rupture, so relief valves and pressure gauges matter.

  4. Thermal behaviour

Machines heat and cool gradually, and a larger temperature gap between the hot and cold sides extracts more work from the steam.

Questions

Does Realistic Generators need Jade?

No. Jade is an optional dependency, so the mod works without it. Patchouli is also optional.

Why does a turbine produce no power?

A turbine with a gap or an out-of-order stage makes zero power. The build dashboard names the stage that is missing or stray.

Does the server need Realistic Generators?

Yes. Servers that run it need every player to install it too.
