Re-FTBQLocalizationKeys

by ThinkingStudio

Re-FTBQLocalizationKeys is a utility that writes translation key files for quests in a modpack, so the quests can be localized into another language.

FabricForgeQuiltClient-side onlyCreative Commons Attribution 4.01.16.4 – 1.20.2

What it does

The mod is a fork of a localization key tool and produces the base for translations of any modpack quest. Architectury API and KubeJS are required alongside it. Once the modpack contains fully written quests, a player types /ftbqkey in chat to generate the files, or /ftbqkey zh cn with a language code. The language code only changes the file name, and all output lands in the folder /ftbqkeys/.

The mod is client-side only, so only the client needs it and servers run without it. It is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license and is not open source, though its source code and issue tracker are public. Builds cover 1.16.4 – 1.20.2 for Fabric, Forge and Quilt, with the latest Fabric and Forge files targeting 1.20.2 and the latest Quilt file targeting 1.19.4. Since the generated keys are the only output, the author suggests deleting the mod once localization is finished, and adding images after generating the localization works better.

Key features

  1. Quest key generation

A chat command writes translation keys for every written quest in the running modpack.

  2. Language code option

An optional language code is appended to the generated file names, such as zh cn.

  3. Dedicated output folder

All generated files are placed in the folder /ftbqkeys/ for simple collection.

  4. Image placement step

The author recommends adding images after generating the localization, not before.

Use cases

Translating a modpack

Modpack teams generate the keys once, then hand the files to translators for each target language.

Who it’s for: Modpack authors who want their quest content available in other languages. The keys are generated from a modpack that already has its quests written, so the modpack must be running first.
