The Ravenous

by WanMine

Players who hear the Screech scream will meet The Ravenous, a hunter that follows sound across the world and can break most blocks to reach them.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

The Ravenous tracks by sound rather than sight. Walking, jumping and breaking blocks draw it toward the player, while standing still makes it search instead of close in. The Screech, a smaller creature, bites and then screams to call the larger hunter from far away. Its scream also puts out torches and breaks glass, so light sources stop protecting the player.

The mod is built on Geckolib, which is required on both Forge and NeoForge. Builds exist for 1.20.1, 1.20.2, 1.20.4 and 1.21.1, with 2.0.5 as the latest file on each loader. Client and server both need it, so every player on a server running the mod must install it too. The code is not open source and the license is All rights reserved.

Key features

  1. Sound-based hunting

The Ravenous moves toward noises such as footsteps, jumps and broken blocks instead of seeing the player.

  2. Block destruction

It can destroy nearly all blocks, leaving obsidian and bedrock as the only materials that hold.

  3. Evolving threat

Each hit it takes increases its size, speed and aggression, and new mouths and claws appear as it grows.

  4. Feeding to distract

Sacrificing a villager or animals can make it lose interest for a while, and it may leave Screecher eggs after each meal.

What the author says

A piercing wail shatters the darkness. The Screech has seen you. It runs away, too weak to fight… but its scream is not one of fear. It’s a call. A call to something bigger. Something hungrier. In the shadows, the Ravenous awakens. Not to protect… but to feed. Now it has heard you. And it’s coming.
