Quick Craft

by Codx

Quick Craft lets a player craft from ingredients stored in nearby chests, without first collecting them into the inventory.

What it does

The mod pulls items from containers within a configurable search distance, up to 64 blocks, and uses them for a craft from the recipe book or the crafting table. A click fills the grid with enough ingredients for one craft, and a shift-click loads everything available up to a full stack. Containers that touch or connect to one another form a chain, and with Chain Mode enabled Quick Craft follows that chain before it reaches the search range.

Renaming a chest in an anvil with a name such as Decorations makes Quick Craft skip it, and a rename without a tag restores it. Chests and barrels from other mods are included whenever they function as ordinary storage. Large network-style systems such as Applied Energistics 2 and Refined Storage are not supported automatically yet. Quick Craft is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with files for 26.1 – 26.1.2, and it requires CodxLib and Fabric API on Fabric. The license is Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial No Derivatives 4.0, and the code is not open source.

Key features

  1. Craft from nearby chests

Ingredients are taken from chests in range, so items never have to be collected first.

  2. Recipe book and grid loading

A click loads enough ingredients for one craft, and a shift-click fills the grid as far as a full stack allows.

  3. Chain Mode

Connected chests are followed as a group, so one craft can draw on a linked set of storage.

  4. Chest skipping by name

Renaming a chest with a chosen tag makes Quick Craft ignore it, which keeps decorative stock out of crafts.

  5. Adjustable search distance

A slider sets how far containers are searched, up to 64 blocks, and most options can be tuned in the config file.

Questions

Does Quick Craft need CodxLib?

Yes. CodxLib is a required dependency on every loader, and Fabric API is also required on Fabric.

Does Quick Craft work with modded chests?

Containers added by other mods count too, provided they handle items the way standard storage does. Network-style systems such as Applied Energistics 2 and Refined Storage are not supported automatically yet.

Can a chest be excluded from crafts?

Yes. Renaming a chest with a tag such as Decorations makes Quick Craft skip it, and renaming it without the tag restores it.

What the author says

Works at the crafting table and your inventory's 2×2 grid. By default QuickCraft uses every chest in range. To skip one, rename the chest in an anvil so its name includes [ignore] (for example Decorations [ignore]) before you place it. Want it back in? Just rename it without the tag.
