One Block

by Codx

Players who begin in a bare world can use One Block, which gives them a single block that respawns after each break and grows richer rewards with every upgrade.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltClient or server, optionalCreative Commons Attribution Non Commercial 4.01.20.1 – 26.3

What it does

Each time the block is broken, another one appears in its place, drawn from a spawn pool that can include any block registered in the game. Blocks are weighted by hardness, so soft blocks such as logs and planks show up first and harder ones appear as the player progresses. Drops can be items, chest contents, bucket drops, plant growth or end portal frames, and the rules behind each of these are set through weighted tables.

Every part of the mod can be adjusted. An in-game admin menu opened with /oneblock admin is a standard chest interface with pages for core settings, biomes and progression, animal spawns, block spawns, drops, dimensions and player management. The same values can be set with commands or by editing a single JSON file, which has a visual editor on the web. The mod can run in singleplayer, on a client-hosted world or on a dedicated server, and it works on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt.

Installation needs CodxLib and Fabric API, with the build that matches the Minecraft version and loader. One Block is not open source and is released under the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial 4.0 license. Either side can run it, and neither needs it, so players and servers can each run it alone. Files cover 1.20.1 – 26.3, with the latest Fabric and NeoForge builds for 26.3.

Key features

  1. Registry-wide spawn pool

The respawning block can be drawn from every block in the game, so the set of possible blocks is not fixed.

  2. Hardness-based progression

Soft blocks come first in the pool and harder ones are introduced as the break count rises, which sets the pace of the run.

  3. Category weights

Each category of block, such as ores, wool or plants, carries a weight that controls how often its members appear.

  4. Custom weighted tables

Each entry in a table states what drops and how often, so the reward for any break can be set exactly.

  5. Dictionary browsing

In-game dictionaries list every block, item and mob the mod can spawn, so players can check the pool without leaving the game.

Questions

Does One Block need Fabric API?

Yes. CodxLib and Fabric API are both required dependencies, and the build must match the Minecraft version and loader in use.

Can the settings be changed without commands?

Yes. The /oneblock admin menu is a chest interface that opens in-game and works on a vanilla client, so no commands are needed for the common settings.

Do dungeons need a world reload?

Yes. A world reads its dimension list only during loading, so enabling dungeons requires a reload. On a server a restart is enough, and in singleplayer quitting to the title screen and reopening the world works.

What the author says

You spawn in the void on a single block. Break it, and it comes back — as something else. Every break is a step through a progression you control: blocks get harder, mobs start showing up in waves, the biome around you changes, and eventually portals open to dungeons built around real Minecraft structures.
