Progressioned
by Herothepro16
Progressioned slows the early game by requiring players to pass through primitive tool tiers before reaching iron, with bone and copper tools as stepping stones.
What it does
Players no longer reach iron by punching trees and jumping straight to it. The mod adds a bone tier, built by striking a bone against stone in the same knapping style used for flint, and a copper tier that is needed before iron ore can be mined. Bone tools deal solid early damage but break off after modest use, and they can later be upgraded with amethyst, bone or golden variants that each offer different benefits.
Several multi-purpose tools join the set: axes, pickaxes, shovels, knives, spears, swords, clubs, hoes and saws combine functions, and a log chopping block turns logs into slimmer decorative blocks, posts and planks. A porcelain kiln replaces the furnace in the early game, and a workstone with a hammer turns ingots into plates. Progressioned is published for NeoForge only, for 1.21.1, and it runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. It is released under the MIT License and is not open source.
Key features
Bone tier
Bone tools are crafted by striking bone against stone, and they hit hard but break quickly.
Copper tier
Copper gains a real role as a required step before iron ore can be mined with a tool.
Multi-purpose tools
Axes, pickaxes, shovels, knives, spears, swords, clubs, hoes and saws combine several functions in one item.
Porcelain kiln
A porcelain kiln is an early replacement for the furnace, holding up to 16 items per right click and keeping a fire burning on coal or charcoal blocks.

How it compares
Auto Smelt Pickaxe is a NeoForge mod for 1.21.4 – 1.21.10 that smelts mined blocks, and it is not open source. Just Paxels is a NeoForge mod for 1.21.1 that combines tool functions, released under All rights reserved. No Tree Punching Remastered covers the same early step of skipping tree punching, is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, and is built for 1.21 – 1.21.1, so it is the open source choice for that gap.

Progressioned aims to make the early game of Minecraft feel more impactful and longer. Instead of immediately punching trees and jumping straight to iron, you'll need to work your way up through primitive tool tiers before you can progress further.
