Predicted lag overlay
by tenite
Predicted Lag Overlay, a Fabric client mod, draws a transparent copy of a player whose movement updates have stopped, so lag does not hide where they are heading.
What it does
When a player's movement packets stop arriving, the mod keeps the last known position and motion and runs a short visual simulation. The predicted copy shows where normal movement probably carried the player, and it fades as confidence drops. Once the real player's updates return, the copy disappears.
The overlay targets lag that makes PvP aim unreliable, where a frozen opponent appears to stand still. Prediction relies on delayed movement packets and recent usable momentum, and it checks block collisions, nearby entity collisions and teleports before a copy is drawn. Prediction is switched off while riding, gliding, swimming, climbing, in spectator mode or while flying.
Predicted Lag Overlay is open source under the MIT License and runs on the client alone. It is published for Fabric only, for Minecraft 26.2 and 26.3, with 0.1.1+26.3 for 26.3 as the latest file. Settings open with the K key, and the binding can be changed in the Controls menu under Predicted Lag Overlay.
Key features
Frozen player copy
A transparent copy of a lagging player is drawn at the predicted position, separate from the frozen real model.
Confidence fading
The predicted copy fades as the simulation runs longer without updates, and it disappears when real updates return.
Collision-aware prediction
Block collisions, nearby entities and teleports are checked before the predicted copy is shown.
Adjustable settings
Pressing K opens the prediction settings, and the key can be rebound in the Controls menu.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Players who fight on servers with unstable connections, and anyone who wants a visual hint of where a lagging player is heading. The overlay is client-side only, so it needs no server installation.
