Portal GUI Fix

by SeishiroNagi

Portal GUI Fix repairs a bug where the portal transition overlay stays on screen after a player travels through a nether or end portal.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient-side onlyMIT License1.16.5 – 1.21.1

What it does

Once a player has crossed a nether or end portal, the transition overlay in vanilla 1.21.1 may stay on screen and hide the blocks beneath it. The mod corrects this broken transition GUI, which is tracked as the well-known bug MC-2071, and restores the vanilla behavior so the overlay clears as intended.

The fix is a small client-side change, so it adds nothing to the server and needs no server installation. Players add it to their own install and need no extra setup. It is built for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across five release versions, 1.16.5 – 1.21.1, under the MIT License, and it is not open source. Fabric installs require Fabric API, and the Fabric Loader must be 0.16 or newer.

Key features

  1. Overlay cleanup

The stuck transition overlay clears after a player travels through a portal, so the screen is no longer blocked.

  2. Vanilla behavior restored

The portal transition returns to the behavior the vanilla game intends, rather than keeping a leftover screen.

  3. Minimal configuration

The mod needs little or no setup, and it works without changing how the game plays on the server.

Use cases

Playing nether and end travel

A player moving between the Overworld, the Nether and the End sees the transition clear normally after each portal.

Single-player and multiplayer clients

Clients on any server can run the fix, because only the client changes its portal screen.

Who it’s for: Players on Minecraft 1.21.1 who run into the portal transition bug, on Fabric or Forge, and want the vanilla portal screen back on their own client.

What the author says

This small client-side mod fixes the broken portal transition GUI in Minecraft 1.21.1, corresponding to the well-known bug MC-2071. After travelling through a nether portal or end portal, the transition overlay stays on screen and blocks the HUD. This mod restores the vanilla behavior.
