OptimizeMod
by SeishiroNagi
OptimizeMod is a lightweight optimization mod for Fabric and Forge that reduces server lag by throttling entity ticks, suspending mob AI and limiting particles.
What it does
The mod targets work that entities and effects add to a server tick. Non-player living entities far from every player skip their AI updates and movement ticks on a cycle, with the skip interval set by default to 4 ticks. Entities within the sleep distance of 96 blocks are treated differently from those further out, and entities in the mid-distance ranges receive partial throttling instead of a full stop. Players are excluded from every throttle, so their own updates are never delayed.
Particle creation is capped by a local counter with a limit of 4000, and spawn requests beyond that cap are dropped. Throttled or cancelled entities have their despawn counter reset so that slowing them down does not cause unwanted despawns. The mod is aimed at servers and at players who actively interact with entities and effects, and the author describes it as a way to validate a performance impact by comparing a baseline with OptimizeMod enabled under identical conditions. The mod is published for Fabric and Forge across 12 release versions, 1.20.1 – 1.21.11, and is not open source; it is released under All rights reserved.
Key features
Distance-based entity throttling
Entities far from players have their AI and movement updates reduced or cancelled, based on distance bands.
Player exclusion
Players are never throttled, so their own movement and interaction are unaffected by the distance rules.
Particle cap
A local counter limits particle creation to 4000, and extra spawn requests are dropped once the cap is reached.
Despawn counter protection
Throttled or cancelled entities have their despawn counter reset, avoiding side effects from slowed updates.

GpuShift is needed on both the client and the server, covers Fabric, Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1 – 1.21.1, and is not open source.
