SmartSort
by SeishiroNagi
SmartSort is a Fabric client mod for Minecraft 1.21.1 that sorts inventory items using saved profiles, triggered by a single keypress.
What it does
When a player presses the sort key, the mod scans containers within a 5-block radius and sorts the items in the player's hotbar and main inventory according to a customizable profile. Profiles can be created for different activities, such as mining, combat, building or exploring, and the player switches between them with a single keypress. Excess items can be stored back into nearby chests, and missing items are reported.
The mod covers the hotbar (9 slots), the main inventory (27 slots) and the four armor slots, and it checks that armor pieces are placed in the correct slot type. It is a client-side only mod, so a server does not need it and players can join a server without installing anything. SmartSort is published for Fabric only, with a single build for 1.21.1, and it is released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source. Public links for the source code and issue tracker exist.
Key features
Profile-based sorting
Each profile defines how items are arranged, and a single keypress applies the profile that fits the current task.
Nearby container scanning
Containers within a 5-block radius are scanned, and items are pulled out in the exact quantities a profile specifies.
Drag-and-drop editor with preview
A drag-and-drop interface lets players arrange items in a profile and see a real-time preview of the resulting inventory.
Item search and exact counts
A search field finds items among more than 1500 vanilla and modded items, and scrolling over a slot sets its quantity from 1 to 64, while right-clicking clears it.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Players who often reorganize their inventory between activities and want to switch layouts with one key. Because the mod runs on the client alone, it suits single-player worlds and multiplayer servers alike.
How it compares
AutoInventorySorter is a Fabric client-side only mod, open source under the MIT License, for 1.21.5 – 1.21.11. QuickOrganizer is also a Fabric client-side only mod under the MIT License, open source, but built for 1.21.4 alone. AppleHotbarOprimiser is Fabric client-side only for 1.21.4 – 1.21.11 and is not open source, released under All rights reserved, so it shares SmartSort's license but covers different versions.
