Ping Wheel

by Luken

Ping Wheel lets players mark a location or an entity for a short time so teammates can see it on screen during co-op play.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.18 – 26.3

What it does

Players place a temporary marker on a block or a mob, and the marker stays visible to others for a limited period. The mod provides this pinging mechanism for Fabric and Forge, and a NeoForge build is also published. Markers scale with distance, so nearby and far pings can be told apart at a glance. When item icons are turned on in the settings, each marker shows the texture or model of the item it points to.

Client and server are both needed for the pings to work. Installing it on Fabric also requires Fabric API, which must be present on every loader it is installed with. Ping Wheel is open source under the MIT License and has public links to its source code and issue tracker. Files cover 1.18 – 26.3, with 1.12.2 for 26.3 as the latest file on each loader.

Key features

  1. Temporary markers

Pings mark a spot or an entity for a short time, then disappear without anyone needing to clear them.

  2. Distance scaling

Each marker is drawn at a size that reflects how far away its target is, so distant pings remain readable.

  3. Item icons

With item icons enabled, a marker shows the texture or model of the item it refers to.

  4. Bukkit plugin

An official plugin is available for players who want the same pinging on Bukkit servers.

What the author says

Modern co-op games often allow players to communicate via "pings" to mark in-game locations. This simple mod provides such pinging mechanism for the fabric and forge mod loaders. If you are looking to use the mod on Bukkit servers, you can install our official Plugin.
