Peritia
by poscard
Peritia is a Forge library that lets passive skills level up from everyday play, such as breaking blocks or fishing.
What it does
Peritia implements passive skills, a skill system where a skill rises as the player performs related actions in the game. Skills can grow through 15 different ways, including breaking blocks and fishing, and skill-gated items can also be granted through recipes. The library adds 4 new attributes and enchantments tied to skills, so progress has visible effects on combat and tools.
Its name comes from the Latin word for skill. Peritia is meant to be built on by other mods and by data packs: JSON-driven content and Java code are needed to add more skills, so the library serves as the base for skill content rather than a finished progression on its own. Most features can be configured through client and server config files, and a command manages and views skill levels. Files are published for Forge 1.20.1 only.
Peritia runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. It is released under the MIT License and is open source, with the source code and a wiki available as public links.
Key features
Passive skills
Skills rise from in-game actions rather than from a menu, so progress happens while the player plays.
Fifteen ways to level up
Skills can be raised through 15 distinct actions, such as breaking blocks and fishing.
Recipe gating
Recipes can be gated behind a skill, so crafting depends on progress made in the skill.
Skill attributes and enchantments
Four new attributes and enchantments linked to skills change how players fight and work.
Commands and config files
A command manages and views skills, and config showfile commands display the client and server configs.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
How it compares
Puffish Skills Leveling is a Forge skill mod for 1.20 – 1.20.6, client and server, under the MIT License, and it is not open source. Fretux's Skill Engine is also a Forge skill mod for 1.20.1, client and server, under the MIT License, and it is open source. Peritia covers 1.20.1 only on Forge, so it does not reach the newer versions that Puffish Skills Leveling supports.
