Partial-Keep-Inventory

by Patzers

Partial-Keep-Inventory is a Fabric server mod that keeps only part of a player's items and experience after death, instead of all of them.

FabricServer-side onlyMIT License1.21.11 – 26.1.2

What it does

Where the vanilla keepInventory rule keeps everything, this mod protects a selected set of items on death and lets the rest drop normally. Gear that cannot stack, including tools, weapons, armour and elytra, survives death, and so do shulker boxes with their colour intact, plus container-type items such as ender chests and bundles. Stackable blocks, food and other stackables drop as usual. Kept items return to their original inventory slots, including the hotbar and the off-hand.

Worn armour is re-equipped automatically on respawn, but each death applies extra durability damage to every worn piece, 3% of its maximum by default. Items are never destroyed by this penalty, and at least 1 durability always remains. The player also loses a configurable number of experience levels, 1 to 5 by default, and never drops below level 0; the lost experience is not left behind as orbs.

The mod runs on the server only, so players join without installing anything. It requires Fabric Loader 0.18 or newer, Fabric API and Java 21 or newer, and it is published for 1.21.11 – 26.1.2. The code is under the MIT License, and the project is not open source in the sense that matters here: it is a released build with no separate source listing on this card.

Key features

  1. Selective item keeping

Tools, weapons, armour, elytra and other single-stack items are kept on death, while other items drop.

  2. Container items kept

Shulker boxes keep their colour, and ender chests, bundles and other whitelisted containers are protected too.

  3. Slot-accurate restore

Kept items go back to their original hotbar, main inventory or off-hand slot, with a fallback when the slot is taken.

  4. Durability and XP penalty

Each death damages worn armour by a configurable share of its durability and removes a set number of experience levels.
