What it does

Parry This! is a core mod that changes how melee combat works rather than adding a single new item. A melee hit with a weapon can be deflected when the player times a parry against the attacker, and a successful parry reduces the defense meter. Parrying becomes easier as the attack recharge meter fills, so a well-timed block is rewarded more than a rushed one. The mod is intended as a supplement to vanilla combat that makes new playstyles viable, and it adds new ways to attack and defend.

Dual wielding lets a player use a weapon in the offhand. The mod does not use right click for this: attacking normally alternates between the main hand and the offhand. Dual wielding gives a small attack speed boost, with a penalty when the two weapons have differing speeds, and weapons marked as two handed cannot be dual wielded. Shield bashes are triggered by pressing the attack button while blocking, and backstabs deal heavy damage to a target that is struck from behind.

The mod is client and server, so both the server and every player need it. It is published for Forge only, with 2.5.3 for 1.18.2 as the latest file, released 2022-08-06. The code is licensed under All rights reserved, so it is not open source.

Key features

  1. Parrying

A parry deflects a melee hit when the player aims at the attacker in time, and a higher attack recharge meter makes it easier.

  2. Dual wielding

Weapons can be used in the offhand, with attacks alternating between hands, a small speed bonus, and a penalty for mismatched speeds.

  3. Shield bash

Blocking and pressing attack starts a bash that hits up to three targets, and the shield then goes on cooldown, longer when a target is hit.

  4. Backstab

A special attack that deals 300% damage to a target struck from behind, and it combines well with vanilla sneaking and invisibility.
