Parental Controls

by sylvxa

Parental Controls gives server owners a per-player playtime limit that kicks a player once their allowed time for the day runs out.

FabricServer-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 26.2

What it does

The Fabric mod runs on the server only, so players join without installing anything. Each player gets a configurable time limit, and when it is used up the player is disconnected with a message the server owner can change. The timer counts real elapsed time, so lag spikes on the server tick do not count toward the limit.

The daily allowance resets at midnight. Fabric API is required and must be installed next to Parental Controls on the server. The source code and issue tracker are public, and the code is released under the MIT License, so the mod is open source. Game versions covered run 1.20.1 – 26.2 across 14 release versions, and the latest Fabric file, 1.1.1, is built for 26.2.

Key features

  1. Per-player time limit

Each player on the server gets an individual amount of playtime that the server owner configures.

  2. Configurable kick message

The text shown to a player who runs out of time can be changed in the config, so the wording suits the server.

  3. Lag-tolerant timer

The timer is based on elapsed time rather than game ticks, so server lag spikes do not consume the allowance.

  4. Midnight reset

The used time clears at midnight, starting a fresh allowance each day.

Use cases

Family servers

A household running a Minecraft server can cap how long each child plays per day without manual kicks.

Community servers

Server owners who want set play schedules for their members can use the per-player timer as a fixed daily limit.

Who it’s for: Server owners who want to limit daily playtime for individual players on a Fabric server. Players only need to join the server, since the mod is installed on the server side alone.
