Datapack/Gamerule Menus

by Estecka

Datapack/Gamerule Menus brings the Datapack and Gamerule menus from world creation into singleplayer worlds that are already created.

FabricClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.19.4 – 26.3

What it does

The mod takes the Datapack and Gamerule menus out of the world-creation screen and makes them reachable from existing singleplayer worlds. It offers a friendlier way to change gamerules than the vanilla /gamerule command, and a friendlier way to manage datapacks than /datapack. As with those commands, the menus only open in worlds where cheats or commands are enabled.

In contrast to the vanilla /datapack command, the Datapack menu here can switch experimental features on and off as well. Some datapacks need a world restart to fully take effect. When the mod can detect that, it shows a warning after the toggle and offers to back out or exit the world cleanly. Some pack types cannot be detected, so no warning appears for them. Toggling such packs without a restart may log errors that are harmless if the world is restarted straight afterward, the same as with /datapack. If a world will not load after the vanilla datapack was disabled, Safe Mode can usually recover it.

The mod is open source under the MIT License and runs on the client and the server. Both sides need it. It is published for Fabric only, across 23 release versions from 1.19.4 onward, with the latest file, 3.0.0+26.3, built for 26.3. Mod Menu is optional.

Key features

  1. Gamerule menu in existing worlds

Gamerules can be edited through a menu instead of typing each command, in worlds that were already created.

  2. Datapack menu in existing worlds

Installed datapacks can be enabled and disabled from a menu that is opened from a finished singleplayer world.

  3. Experimental feature toggles

The Datapack menu can switch experimental features on or off, which the vanilla /datapack command does not offer.

  4. Restart warnings

After toggling a pack that needs a restart, the mod offers to back out or exit the world gracefully where it can detect the need.

Questions

Does Datapack/Gamerule Menus need Mod Menu?

No. Mod Menu is an optional dependency, so the mod runs without it.

Does the server need the mod as well?

Yes. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too.

Can the menus be used in any world?

No. Like the vanilla commands, the menus only work in worlds where cheats or commands are enabled.

What the author says

Takes the titular menus from the World-Creation menu, and makes them available from already created singleplayer worlds. This provides a more user-friendly alternative to the vanilla /gamerule and /datapack commands. Like those commands, the menus will only be accessible in worlds with cheats/commands enabled.
