orelocator_compass

by DY_XiaoJiaZi

OreLocator Compass is a Forge item that points to nearby ores of one chosen mineral when a player holds it.

ForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.20.1 – 1.20.6

What it does

Ore blocks it finds have their edges highlighted in a color that matches the ore's own hue, so they stand out in the terrain. The search covers a 3x3 chunk area, and it works with vanilla minerals including ores, ingots, blocks and shards.

The compass supports ore highlighting, durability, enchanting, a cooldown that keeps repeated searches from being spammed, and low memory use. The recipe uses a 3x3 crafting table, with copper blocks, redstone blocks, diamond blocks and a compass as inputs. The mod runs on Forge for Minecraft 1.20.1 – 1.20.6, and it is released under All rights reserved, so the code is not open source. Public source code links are available.

Key features

  1. Nearby ore search

The compass locates the vanilla ore that matches the mineral held in the other hand, within a 3x3 chunk area.

  2. Edge highlighting

Located ore blocks have their edges glow in a color matching each ore's inherent hue.

  3. Multiple mineral support

Several vanilla minerals are supported, including their ores, ingots, blocks and shards.

  4. Cooldown and enchanting

A built-in cooldown limits how often searches run, and the compass can be enchanted and has durability.

Use cases

Underground trips

A player heading into the deep underground can check for a specific mineral before digging, instead of scanning the walls by eye.

Who it’s for: Players who explore caves and dig for vanilla ores on Forge, and who want a targeted search rather than a general scanner.
