Nyctophobia
by LithiumPlus
Nyctophobia is a world generation mod that adds foggy, unsettling biomes to the Overworld, with fog that shows only in some of them.
What it does
Six biomes are added to the Overworld: Haunted Forest, Eroded Haunted Forest, Haunted Lakes, Burnt Forest, Deep Dark Forest and Dead Coral Reef. Each one replaces a vanilla biome by default, and a config setting controls which host biome it takes over. Biomes from other mods can be used as hosts too, by their full id. Two Nyctophobia biomes cannot claim the same host biome.
The mod requires TerraBlender, the library that places its biomes in the world, and Fabric API on Fabric. Forge and NeoForge do not need Fabric API. Without TerraBlender no Nyctophobia biome generates. Nyctophobia adds no blocks, items or mobs, so it works alongside texture packs and other worldgen mods. It runs on client and server, and files exist for 1.19.2, 1.19.3, 1.20, 1.20.1, 1.21.1 and 1.21.8. It is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only and is open source, with the source code published.
Key features
Six themed biomes
Haunted, eroded, burnt, deep dark and coral biomes add dark forests, lakes and reefs to the Overworld.
Per-biome generation settings
Each biome can be enabled or disabled, with its own density and a height band that limits where the fog shows.
Biome weight control
An overall weight setting balances the mod's biomes against vanilla biomes during generation.
Soul lanterns on haunted lakes
An option swaps the candles on the lake shores for soul lanterns.

Who it’s for: Players and server owners who want unsettling Overworld biomes in a survival or adventure world. Each biome can be tuned or switched off in the config.
How it compares
Foggy Pale Garden (FPG) is a client-side only mod released under the MIT License, with files for 1.19.3 – 1.21.8 on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. Foggy Border is also client-side only and open source under the MIT License, but it is published for Fabric alone, for 1.20 – 1.21.11. Nyctophobia runs on client and server and needs its library to place biomes, so it differs from both in environment and loader support.
