No Friendly Fire (Updated)
by vllax
No Friendly Fire stops players from accidentally hitting their tamed pets, unless they strike while crouching.
What it does
Players can no longer damage a tamed pet by accident during normal play. A hit from a player who is not crouching is cancelled, and a hotbar message tells the attacker the attack was blocked and explains the sneaking mechanism. A player who crouches and hits the pet still deals damage, so an owner who wants to remove a pet on purpose can do so. The same rule covers pets owned by other players, so a player cannot harm someone else's tamed animal by mistake.
The mod is aimed at survival worlds and multiplayer servers where accidental hits are common, and it works with tamed mobs from other mods, as long as those mobs register their tamed attacker in the usual way. A version 1.1 config file lets server owners and players adjust the accidental damage protection.
No Friendly Fire runs on Forge and NeoForge, for 1.19.2 – 1.21.10. Files are released for 1.19.2, 1.19.4, 1.20.1, 1.20.4, 1.21.1 and 1.21.10, and the mod needs both the client and the server. It is released under the MIT License and is not open source.
Key features
Protection from accidental hits
A hit on a tamed pet from a player who is not crouching is cancelled, so casual clicks do not harm the animal.
Deliberate damage while sneaking
Crouching and hitting a pet still damages it, which leaves a way to eliminate a pet on purpose.
Hotbar notice
When an attack is cancelled, the attacker sees a hotbar message that the attack was blocked and how sneaking works.
Protection for other owners' pets
The rule applies to pets belonging to other players, not only to the attacker's own pets.
Configurable behavior
A config file included with version 1.1 controls the accidental damage protection.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.

What the author says
A simple mod that prevents players from attacking their pets by accident, making the game more convenient. There is still an option for damaging your pets if you want to intentionally eliminate them. If you hit them while sneaking, it will still damage them. Otherwise, it sends you a hotbar message letting you know…
