Progressive Mob Wave Activations - PMWA

by vllax

Progressive Mob Wave Activations, or PMWA, holds back selected mobs from spawning until a chosen number of in-game days has passed or a required mob has been killed.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT License1.19.2 – 1.21.1

What it does

Each restriction in the config names a mob, the day count that releases it, and optionally a requirement such as a previously killed mob and a minimum distance from the world spawn at X0 Z0. Until the conditions are met, the restricted mob does not spawn naturally. Mobs still appear through spawn eggs, summon commands and player-placed spawns, and spawns from mob spawners and other mechanisms are cancelled unless a player is close by. Because restricted mobs are removed from the natural pool, the remaining mobs spawn more often, which varies the experience between worlds.

Restrictions are written as lines in a plain text config file, with one line per restriction. Each line holds a mob identifier, a chat color, an optional activation message shown when the mob becomes enabled, and a requirement. Optional extras include a command that resets the day count or shows the message again, and broadcast messages each morning in the overworld that report the current day count and note that a player dying can reset it. Forge and NeoForge are supported, and the mod runs on client and server. The license is MIT and the code is not open source.

Key features

  1. Day-based restrictions

A mob can be held back until the world reaches a set day count, such as zombies held back until day 2.

  2. Kill-based requirements

A restriction can wait for a specific mob to be killed, for example withers until the Ender Dragon is slain.

  3. Chat activation messages

Each restriction can send a colored chat message when the mob is enabled, using named colors or hex codes.

  4. Distance limit

Requirements can also depend on a minimum distance from the world centre, so the release happens only beyond that radius.

  5. Reset command

A command can reset the day count or show a message again, and requirements can be changed after registration.
