Music Regions
Music Regions lets a world assign its own music tracks to painted areas of chunks, so each location plays a soundtrack of its own.
What it does
Music Regions is a utility and adventure mod that assigns music to areas of a Minecraft world. A region is created by selecting it in the Music Region editor and painting the chunks it covers: left click paints the current chunk and right click removes it. Each region holds a music library, and when a player is inside, one of its tracks is picked at random. Regions can be nested or overlap, and a region with a higher priority overrides a lower one where they meet. A smooth fading system blends the tracks at the borders, so the change between locations does not cut abruptly.
Custom tracks can be added as .ogg files without editing sounds.json, and newly placed files are detected automatically and appear in the Music Manager. Tracks already listed in sounds.json still work. The mod runs on Fabric and NeoForge for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, with Fabric API required on the Fabric build. Installation covers the server and each player's game. Music Regions integrates with Chronicle. The code is under the MIT License, and the project is not open source.
Key features
Painted regions
Regions are drawn by painting the chunks they cover, which makes their borders simple to adjust in the world.
Random track selection
A region can hold several songs, and one of them is picked at random for a player inside the area.
Region priorities
Higher priority regions override lower priority regions where areas overlap, giving control over which music plays.
Custom .ogg tracks
Own music files are added without editing sounds.json, and new tracks are detected and listed in the Music Manager.
Smooth fading
Music fades between regions, so the change between locations happens gradually rather than abruptly.
