What it does

Multicount is a server-side mod that lets each player keep more than one character or save slot inside a single Minecraft instance. Account switching swaps the player's NBT data, advancements and statistics with the stored files for the chosen account, so each character keeps its own progress. Servers set a default limit on how many accounts each player may hold, and a player can see the number of the account currently in use.

The mod is built mainly for roleplay, where several characters belong to one person or several people share a world. It also works in singleplayer and on LAN games, with the server side doing the work. Installation needs only the server, since the environment is server-side only and players join without installing anything. The author advises backing up the game data before use, because switching accounts can cause data loss if something goes wrong.

Files are published for Fabric and NeoForge across 34 release versions, 1.17 – 26.3, with snapshot builds included. The code is released under the MIT License and is open source, and the source code and issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. Account switching commands

Players change between their accounts with simple commands, and a player who disconnects during a switch keeps the normal flow of the game.

  2. Account limit per player

A server sets a default number of accounts each player may hold, and the accountmax command changes the limit for a specific player.

  3. Configuration file

A multicount.properties file stores the default maximum, whether the accountmax command is allowed, and other settings.

  4. Operator and non-operator commands

Non-operators can list and switch accounts, while operators can query limits, set a limit to 0 and reset a player to the server default.
