Multi-Sided Blocks

by Maronn

Multi-Sided Blocks lets a single block show a different texture on each of its six faces, so a wall can look one way inside and another way outside.

FabricClient and serverCC0 1.0 UniversalOpen source1.20.1

What it does

Each side of a block can take a texture of its own, a setup suited to realistic buildings where interior and exterior walls look different, without constructing a double wall. Each face is configured independently, and the setup is stored with the world through the block entity NBT data. Broken blocks keep their configured faces, and the creative pick block copies them as well.

The mod supports vanilla block textures and textures from other mods, and it preserves biome tinting on blocks such as grass and leaves. It uses the Fabric Renderer API for dynamic face rendering. Indium and Sodium are required, and both the client and the server need this mod in place. Multi-Sided Blocks is open source under the CC0 1.0 Universal license and is published for Fabric 1.20.1.

Key features

  1. Six separate faces

Each of the six faces of a single block can take a different block texture, set separately from the others.

  2. Vanilla and modded textures

Faces can use textures from vanilla blocks as well as textures added by other mods.

  3. Biome tinting kept

Blocks such as grass and leaves keep their biome color on the faces that were assigned to them.

  4. Saved configuration

Face settings are stored in the block entity NBT, so they persist with the world and survive breaking the block.

Use cases

Realistic buildings

Walls can show a finished look on the outside and a different finish inside, without building a second layer of blocks.

Who it’s for: Builders who want different finishes on the two sides of a wall, and server owners who want the same building options on every client.
