Mson
Mson is a Fabric and Quilt library that loads entity models from configurable JSON files instead of compiled model code.
What it does
Model geometry is moved out of Java code and into JSON files placed in the assets folder under models/entity/mson. A model is read when the game loads, and its definition can be changed without recompiling the mod that uses it. The mod is a library, so it adds no items or blocks on its own; it provides the loading system that other mods build on.
Mson ships bundled models for a humanoid starting point, a simplistic quadruped and the default player models. A new humanoid model can name one of these as its parent and override only the body parts it needs to change. Modders who want their own models register them and load them through Mson, and the wiki's Model Language Definition page and a list of vanilla entities with close equivalents guide the conversion.
It is installed on the player's side alone, so servers need nothing. Mson requires Fabric API, and it is published for Fabric and Quilt on 1.20.5 – 26.3, with files for 26.3 released 2026-09-19. The mod is released under the MIT License, and its source code, issue tracker and wiki are public.
Key features
JSON entity models

A humanoid base and a simplistic quadruped ship with the mod and can be used as parents for new models.
Part overrides
A model can inherit from a parent and replace only selected body parts, keeping the rest of the geometry unchanged.
