What it does

Palladium is a client optimization mod by Mr.Toad that targets duplicated data and repeated work in the rendering pipeline. Its deduplication pass removes copies of resource keys, resource locations and vertex data, and a cache limits how often uniforms and shader logs are requested. It also adjusts cat and wolf attack behavior and wolf and rabbit fleeing, and makes small improvements to reading .nbt storage files.

Palladium requires Fabric API and ToadLib on Fabric and Quilt, and ToadLib on the other loaders. Mod Menu is optional. Players need the mod on their client, while a server can run without it. Files target 1.19.4 – 1.21.8 for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and the source is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, making it open source.

  1. Resource deduplication

    Duplicate copies of resource keys, resource locations and vertices are removed so the same data is not held twice.

  2. Shader and uniform caching

    Uniforms, shaders and shader logs are cached, which lowers how often they are requested during rendering.

  3. Mob AI changes

    Cat and wolf attack behavior is adjusted, and wolves and rabbits flee with revised logic.

  4. Storage format tweaks

    Reading and writing the .nbt main storage format is slightly faster.
