Movement In GUI
by Plastoid501
Movement In GUI keeps the player moving while an inventory, crafting or other container screen is open, so walking and jumping continue behind the menu.
What it does
Normally, opening a container or inventory screen stops the player from moving. With this Fabric mod installed, movement input stays active while such a screen is on display, so a player can walk around a crafting table or sort items while the inventory remains open. The effect is limited to the client, so the mod can be added to a client without any change on the server side.
The mod is published under the MIT License as open source, with source code and an issue tracker available through its public links. Files cover game versions 1.14 – 26.3, with 1.1.1 build 19 for 26.3 as the newest Fabric file, published 2026-09-16. Its first release dates to 2024-07-17. Only Fabric is supported, so Forge and NeoForge installs do not get a build.
Key features
Moving with an open GUI
Walking and turning continue while an inventory or container screen is open, instead of freezing the character.
Working in crafting screens
A player can move around a crafting setup with the inventory open, keeping items within reach.
Key to open the GUI
The mod adds a keybinding that opens the GUI, so the screen can be reached without the usual menu input.
Client-only behavior
Changes apply to the player's own game, so a multiplayer server does not need the mod to accept the connection.

Use cases
Building in creative mode
Players editing a build in creative mode can keep walking while the inventory is open to pick blocks.
Crafting while exploring
Players who craft in the middle of a trip can keep moving toward the next resource without closing the screen.
Who it’s for: Players who play on Fabric and want to move while an inventory or container screen is open. Server owners do not need to install it, since it only changes the client.
How it compares
Move & Chat is an open source Fabric mod released under the MIT License, client-side only, for 1.21.6 – 26.2. It focuses on movement and chat controls rather than on keeping movement active during screens. Command Block IDE is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 only, client required and server optional, for 1.16.5 – 26.1.2, so it needs a server install to be active on that side.
