Mouse 4 as back binds the fourth mouse button to a Back action that closes the current screen and returns to the one before it.
What it does
A hotkey on the fourth mouse button sends the player to the previous screen. Because not every screen stores a reference to the one that opened it, the mod tries several methods in turn: it looks for a button whose label reads back, return, done or cancel, then searches fields with names such as previous, lastscreen and parentscreen, and finally calls the close method that the Escape key uses.
The search is built around vanilla screen behavior. Some submenus, such as video settings nested under the settings screen, keep a link to their parent, and the mod follows fields up to a depth of seven. The method used to find that depth was chosen arbitrarily, and the mod's developer notes that the approach was chosen to make sure it works across the screens tested.
Installation needs Fabric API. The mod runs on the client alone, so only players install it and servers need nothing. Files cover 1.21 – 26.2 for Fabric, with 1.0.0+26.2 for 26.2 as the latest file, released under the MIT License. The source code is public and the mod is open source.
