The Moon

by sniffercraft34

The Moon adds a Moon dimension that players reach by travel, with gold deposits, new advancements and a landscape with little life.

What it does

The dimension is reached through a travel route the mod adds, and its surface is described as sparse, with few living things and some structures. Underground, the mod places gold in large amounts, and the author describes the surface as only the first layer of what the dimension holds. Reaching it is the main challenge the author names.

Hostile mobs from the overworld can appear on the Moon, and its sky draws on the End texture, so custom End sky packs work with it too. The low gravity sets how movement feels there, with a jump boost and slow falling available to players.

The Moon runs on the server, so only the server needs it and players can join without installing anything. It is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and as a data pack for server platforms. Files exist for 1.21.3 – 26.1.2, with 1.0.1+mod for 26.1.2 as the latest build. The code is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Moon dimension

A separate dimension with its own surface, reached through travel rather than a command.

  2. Underground gold

Gold generates underground in large amounts, with the author's notes describing deposits beyond ordinary worlds.

  3. New advancements

Advancements track progress toward and on the Moon, adding goals beyond the vanilla list.

  4. Moon mobs and sky

Hostile overworld mobs can spawn there, under a sky that reuses the End texture.

Use cases

Server progression

Server owners can use the dimension as a late goal, since reaching it is the stated challenge.

Solo exploration

Single-player players can explore the surface and collect the underground gold on a new world.

Who it’s for: Players who want a distant dimension with a difficult trip and large gold reserves, and server owners who want a reward past the standard progression.

Questions

Does The Moon need to be installed on the client?

No. It is required on the server and optional for players.

Which loader should a server use for The Moon?

Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt each have files, with 1.0.1+mod for 26.1.2 as the latest on every loader. Choose the loader the server already runs.

Should an existing world be backed up before installing The Moon?

Yes. The author advises a new world, since an existing one can break and may need a level.dat edit to fix. Take extra care when using a beta build.

What the author says

Welcome to the Moon, a... well, moon, devoid of life and structures. But that's only on the surface. Underground, you can find gold in amounts beyond your wildest dreams. The only challenge is getting there... Note that endermen, creepers, zombies and skeletons can spawn on the Moon!\ The Moon's skybox uses the End…
